Guided tours of Ireland with Driver

It’s always good to put faces to names. And here we are! Ready to create an incredible tour for you, it’ll be full of interest, fun and special memories.
Drivers

Central to the enjoyment of your trip, our friendly driver-guides escort you on your journey. They’re a driver and a guide. Holding a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence, they love to show off their beloved country. And they’re full of warm, Irish hospitality. A wealth of knowledge, they’ll take great care of you and make your Irish experience so very special.

Shaun Rodgers

From our office in gorgeous County Donegal, Shaun loves chatting to prospective guests like you (“They don’t let me away from my desk too often these days….”). Should you wish to tailor your trip, Shaun is generally on hand to help you create an incredible journey. He has a canny knack of making everything work.

25 years in the travel industry and time spent as a driver-guide, Shaun’s enthusiasm for Ireland’s complex historical timeline is clear to see. It’s what brings any Irish trip alive, he says; helping to explain the passion behind the culture.

A true people person, Shaun loves a bit of socialising, coupled with a “few wee songs and stories”. Like so many Irishmen, golf runs in his veins too. But his biggest enjoyment is creating fabulous experiences for those that wish to visit The Emerald Isle

Ciaran McBride: Co-owner

Bringing over 20 years’ experience to the company, Ciaran has an incredible knowledge of Ireland, particularly Irish history and genealogy. If you’re looking to uncover a bit of ancestry on your tour, Ciaran is one of our go-to men.

An accredited tour guide, Ciaran also holds a diploma in Tourism Business Studies. He’s key to both the corporate and leisure industry across the island, having helped 5-star hotels, multinational companies and heads of state over the years. In addition to our many private clients, of course.

If you’re into sports or politics, Ciaran will chat all day. And if you ask him for the best spot in Ireland, he’ll always say County Donegal.

Karen McBride: Co-owner

Karen’s background includes more than 20 years in catering and hospitality. It’s left her with an in-depth understanding of this sector, which benefits our business (and our clients) enormously. Now working alongside husband, Ciaran, Karen manages the office with enviable efficiency. Should you call, you might initially chat to Karen on the phone. She’s very friendly.

Passionate about our island, there’s nothing better than taking to the road, she says. And she knows the routes well. Her love of walking, in addition to the culinary arts and gastronomy fit perfectly with everything that’s so special about Ireland.

Eva Harkin: Operations Manager

Almost 20 years ago, Eva came back to her home in Donegal. Having worked in marketing, she set her new focus on the travel industry for our business. Custom-designing spectacular tours, with attention to every detail. 20 years on, her experience and knowledge are vast. Eva knows how to make a tour (your tour?) special, wherever it is in Europe. And particularly in Ireland.

With her home in God’s Country, Eva never tires of walking on the many golden beaches. Lunch can often be taken among glorious sea views. A brief pause between planning special trips for clients. Perhaps you’ll be next?

Kieran Doherty (The Doc): driver-guide

Our clients love Kieran’s informal style of touring. He’s always hankering for the back roads, showing you where the locals prefer to socialise. His love of the real Ireland is clear.

Having travelled extensively across the USA, Canada and Europe, Kieran has worked in both the hospitality and golf sectors. And now, he’s one of our fantastic driver-guides.

If you’re looking to trace ancestors in Ireland, Kieran has a keen interest in genealogy. He’ll help you discover ancient homesteads and towns in your family history. He knows how important this can be to you.

A Donegal native, Kieran certainly places it in the top three counties; alongside Kerry and Clare.

“Kieran ‘Doc’ Doherty was the consummate professional driver and guide with a great sense of style and humor. He quickly became like a family member.”

“Our amazing driver, Kieran Doherty, was over the top fantastic. He was more than just a driver. He took care of our every need and provided so much history of our family.”

Peter Moloney: driver-guide

Our Peter is quite the entertainer. It’s hard not to laugh when he’s in the car. Young and old clients love Peter’s charm and wit; always quick to make friends.

A fully qualified tour guide, Peter provides a wealth of information about Ireland – he’s so proud of this country. Keen to demonstrate the real Ireland, he’ll craft routes that take you off the beaten track. Country roads that unveil hidden gems you’d otherwise have missed. Touring with Peter is certainly memorable.

With a love of music and dance, Peter’s always happy to show you the night-life, wherever you are. He’ll find joyful Irish ballads for you to relish into the wee hours; he’s always having the craic (fun).

“The most outstanding part of our trip was our driver, Peter Maloney. Without him we’d have been lost. He directed us to the best dining, attractions and hidden gems not on the itinerary. We can sincerely say we all became friends by the end of our trip.”

Michael (Mick) Kavanagh: driver-guide

After 35 years as a badged Fáilte Ireland approved guide, there’s not a road undiscovered by Mick. We’re proud he’s part of our team. A history-lover (Irish, English and American), you’ll hear many ancient stories from him. And the odd song too. He’s a happy fellow.

Dublin is Mick’s city and he’s got much to say about it, should you ask. Though when it comes to favourite places, he’s likely to suggest Dingle in County Kerry and Antrim in Northern Ireland. Great choices.

Are you a golfer? Then meet your match. Mick’s got an amazing handicap and plenty of tips from his expertise.

“Having experienced many tour guides of varying degrees of knowledge and enthusiasm, it was a pure delight to have Mick guide us. Beyond his expert commentary, I was amazed to realize that I had never felt safer in a car–ever.”

Tony Byrne: driver-guide

A seasoned driver-guide, Tony has over 30 years’ experience in private touring. He’s also a Fáilte accredited tour guide. And he absolutely loves his job with all his heart. A warm and sociable chap, he befriends many that he meets, often keeping in touch or catching up on return visits.

Dublin born and bred, Tony previously worked for many foreign embassies; home and abroad. Also abreast of current affairs, he’s particularly interested in sheep farming matters in Ireland.

With a passion for our native language, Tony loves to showcase Irish song and dance to visitors. Should you see the Celtic Steps show on your tour, he assures you of an incredible time

His special place in Ireland? It’s hard to pin him to one, but the Burren region is it. Tony describes it as magical; there’s nothing like the Burren across the rest of Europe.

“Tony listened and everyday was an adventure into the past. This man is a wealth of knowledge about his home. I can’t say enough about the professional and personal services he gave us.”

Sean Doyle: driver-guide

You’re never safer than when touring with a retired police officer! Today, Sean enjoys sharing his incredible knowledge with people like you.

Raised in a little, rural town called Bagenalstown in County Carlow, Sean is always at home among valleys and mountains. In fact, the western side of the island is his favourite; Galway, Mayo and Donegal.

With much interest in Irish culture and history, Sean can’t help but burst into song from time to time. It certainly helps the journey pass.

A keen golfer (we’ve got many), you’ll find he’s also into horse racing, Gaelic football and hurling (you’ll have to ask Sean about that one).

“Sean Doyle, our driver, guide and new dear friend, met us at the airport and we instantly loved him. He was funny, kind and took us around at our own pace, sharing relevant info along the way.”

“Sean felt like part of the family and without a doubt, was the primary reason we came back from Ireland feeling like this was a trip of a lifetime for our family.”

Charlie Billingsley: driver-guide

Many of our regular, local clients ask for Charlie by name. He’s an amenable chap and you’ll soon make friends. Charlie has been in the chauffeuring industry for more than 23 years. You’re in safe hands. And he’s only too happy to share a few Irish yarns with you.

A lover of sport, Charlie favours golf, sailing and boats in general. It’s not surprising, given the amount of wonderful sea that surrounds our land. He’s a great believer in being kind, staying humble and smiling often. It certainly works for him.

Sean McBride: driver-guide

Hailing from County Donegal (once called the “coolest place on the planet” by National Geographic), Sean is a badged Fáilte accredited tour guide. He graduated with Distinction, so we’re mighty proud of him.

Politics and history are his thing, if they’re yours. His understanding of Irish politics, both northern and southern, is vast. Tap into it if you want to learn more. He’ll be only too glad.

A proud Irishman, Sean loves to showcase his country with a passion. You’ll be guaranteed an interesting trip. And whilst Donegal is a recommended destination by Sean, so is Killarney and Dingle.

Donegal born-and-bred; Dermot maintains this is the best spot of all. Even though he’s travelled throughout our island. The people are different in Donegal, he says. Perhaps you’ll see for yourself?

A keen sportsman, Dermot’s golfing handicap is in single figures. He also coaches the sport, so there’s potential if you’re after some tips.

Originally a history teacher, Dermot’s knowledge is wide-reaching, right up to modern day. It remains a keen interest for him.

And today, he’s never happier than when showing people around the land, discovering magic and memories along the way.

Paul Conroy: driver-guide

Paul was previously a fourth-generation worker at the famous Guinness Brewery, St. James’s Gate in Dublin. Home of the black stuff. He’s many a story to tell.

Since his Guinness days, Paul studied Genealogy and Family History, qualifying from the National University of Ireland. He’s a great asset, should you be tracing your own ancestry in our fair land.

Our rich, cultural heritage is a fascination for Paul. A Dubliner himself, his learning of the capital’s complex history is vast. Paul’s a true ambassador for Ireland and you’ll thoroughly enjoy your time with him, should he escort you on your special tour.

Billy Shaw: driver-guide

One for banter and fun, Billy’s an entertaining driver-guide to escort you. His warmth and friendliness will soon win you over.

Hailing from the Royal County, Billy grew up in Summerhill, County Meath. He adores his home country and that shines through in his tours, with plenty of information to accompany his enthusiasm.

Billy’s great interest in genealogy and history can help if you’re uncovering a past that’s relevant to your own family. As with all our driver-guides, ask the questions and they’ll have or find the answers for you. We’re a helpful bunch.

It’s the east of the country that Billy has a weakness for. Newgrange, Trim Castle and Hill of Tara. And they’re all on his doorstep, lucky man.
